The first version of the company’s video creation tool called Video-01 has been released. Updates are planned to allow users to make videos from images. Chinese AI startup MiniMax has introduced its text-to-video model Video-01, intensifying competition with other tech companies in China aiming to keep up with OpenAI’s Sora advancements.

MiniMax, known as one of the AI leaders in China alongside Zhipu AI, Baichuan, and Moonshot AI, launched Video-01 on its website after debuting it at the developer’s conference in Shanghai. This tool allows users to input a description and generate a video lasting up to six seconds within two minutes.

During the event, MiniMax founder Yan Junjie stated that Video-01 marks the version of the video generation tool. He also mentioned that future updates will include features for creating videos from images and editing those videos based on reports.

Video-01 from MiniMax showcases the aggressive entry of Chinese tech companies into the emerging AI market. This development comes months after OpenAI’s introduction of Soras video creation capabilities in February, raising questions about China’s ability to compete with US progress. Notably, Sora has yet to be made available to the public.
